Tambourine Innovation Ventures (TIV) partnered with a distinguished technology solutions provider dedicated to pioneering solutions that drive positive societal impact, particularly in the healthcare sector. Our collaboration focused on addressing health disparities by enhancing the firm's capabilities in securing and managing an NIH SBIR grant, an area where they previously lacked expertise. As the healthcare industry stands on the brink of a digital transformation, the integration of social determinants of health (SDoH) data is crucial for advancing health equity. The client aimed to develop an interoperable and scalable data management system capable of effectively collecting, sharing, and analyzing healthcare data. This system was designed to support the transition to value-based care and comply with stringent HIPAA regulations, addressing the challenge of integrating diverse health data modalities.

TIV provided a comprehensive suite of services to enhance the client's capabilities in managing NIH SBIR grant applications effectively. Initially, we conducted grant research, identifying and coordinating with the relevant funding agency to find grant opportunities aligned with the client's mission and technological capabilities. Our team then took on proposal writing, drafting, and preparing the grant proposal with detailed project aims focused on data integration, advanced analytics, and HIPAA-compliant data management systems. We crafted narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation to meet the NIH SBIR program's stringent criteria. Following this, TIV collaborated closely with the client during the proposal review and revision process to ensure clarity and alignment with the grant’s objectives. We also managed the submission coordination, facilitating the timely submission of the grant application and ensuring all procedural requirements were carefully followed. Additionally, we engaged in a robust coaching and capacity-building process with the client’s staff, enhancing their understanding of the grant proposal writing and application process. We also provided ongoing feedback to refine their skills and knowledge, ensuring sustained organizational capacity-building.

Through our engagement, the client successfully submitted their NIH SBIR grant application and developed an in-house capability to pursue future funding opportunities independently. Our intervention facilitated the creation of a robust data management plan and budget, significantly boosting their potential to secure funding. Additionally, our efforts helped streamline their interactions with NIH, setting a strong foundation for their project’s success. TIV’s expert guidance and tailored support have empowered the client to navigate the complexities of NIH SBIR grant applications successfully, paving the way for them to make a significant impact in using digital technology to advance health equity.
